The contrast of art is our only window on the world” – Cornelius Castoriadis, from the book Window into Chaos (Greek edition: Ypsilon Books, 2007).

Almost 80 years ago, Mataroa, a New Zealand ship, kept the window of art open, transporting (and essentially saving) many Greek students – scholars of the French state and later important people of letters and art, from Greece to France. Among them, Cornelius Castoriadis.

Today, Mataroa Mediterranean Dry Gin is carving its own path in the country’s culinary history and supporting important cultural initiatives, such as Nikos Kypourgos’ and Thodoris Abazis’ play “Mataroa In Sight” (Greek title: Ματαρόα στον ορίζοντα), by the Alternative Scene of the Greek National Opera, in co-production with the National Theatre of Greece.

Mataroa MDG, the proud sponsor of the play, would like to wholeheartedly thank the National Theatre for sharing this unique artistic experience and momentum.
